Beloit-Wamego Triangular

On Thursday September 28th the Volleyball team traveled 99 to the Wamego Triangular. The Mustangs first played Beloit. The young Mustangs started off rather slowly. They made a run at a come back and showed some fight in the match by rallying back, but couldn't overcome the deficit and lost in two. Against Wamego, the team played better and showed some fight also fighting back from behind. Unfortunately they couldn't maintain the run and lost the match. The Mustangs will take on Wabaunsee at home on Tuesday the 3rd. JV/C begin at 5 pm. with Varsity play beginning at 6 p.m.

Rock Creek vs St. Marys

The Mustangs hosted St. Marys on September 19th.  The Varsity started struggling to pass right out of the gate with a new line-up (missing senior Joci with a broken finger). They couldn't beat the strong serving by the Bears and fell quickly in the first set. The second set, the Mustangs looked much better and played  better but lost the match with a close second set. In the second match, the Mustangs continued to struggle, losing the second match in two sets as well.

Nemaha Central Tournament Time!

The Lady Mustangs rose early on Saturday the 9th to travel to Seneca to the always challenging, 10 team Nemaha Central Tournament. First up for the Mustangs was Riverside. Riverside surprised the Mustangs out of the gate by jumping out to a strong lead. The Mustangs snapped awake and rallied to take the first set and then easily took the second set to win that match. Immediately following that match, the Mustangs took on Horton. The team struggled a little and ended up going three sets but did take the win.  In the third set of pool play the Mustangs played Atchison who brought some strong hitters. The Mustangs fought hard but fell in the first set but came back strong in the second. It wasn't enough though and they lost the match. In their final pool play match, the Mustangs took on Sabetha to see who would advance out of pool play as only the top two of each 5 team pool advance. The Mustangs looked better than ever and had their best match of the day against the Bluejays, taking it in two close sets to advance to the bracket play.

After a brief rest, the Mustangs, who placed second in their pool, met the Nemaha Central Thunder. The Thunder team is loaded with impressive hitters and the Mustangs couldn't stop them and fell in two sets. The Thunder went on to win the tournament. The Mustangs moved to the consolation game against Marysville. The Mustangs played well, ended up taking fourth on the day. Overall a strong finish for the Mustangs and their young team.

Mustangs go 1-1 at Wabaunsee-Mission Valley Triangular

The Mustangs traveled to Wabaunsee Thursday the 7th to compete against Wabaunsee and Mission Valley.  Having just faced the chargers at their tournament a few weeks ago, the Mustangs were eager to meet the Chargers again and get a second chance to knock them off. Unfortunately, the Mustangs couldn't get things going in their direction and fell to the Chargers in the first match. In the second match against the Vikings, the Mustangs were ready . They came out fighting and knocked off the ranked Vikings to take the second match!

Mustangs Sweep Home Opener

The Mustangs opened their season at home on Thursday, August 31st against Marysville and Riley County. The varsity started off slowly with Marysville jumping out to a strong start. The Bulldog hitters weren't being stopped and it looked like the Mustangs weren't going to be a match for their strength, falling in the first set. The Mustangs decided they wanted a different outcome and in the second set came out with a strong defense against the Marysville hitters and got them out of their game. The Mustangs battled and eventually won set 2 and then powered through set 3 to take the match from the Bulldogs! The Mustangs had great fan support which helped them rally for the win! Thanks fans!

In the second match against Riley County, the Mustangs also took a little while to find their footing but ended up taking that match in 3 sets as well for a sweep on the night! It was a terrific showing for the Mustangs!

Wabaunsee Invitational-Saturday August 26th

The Varsity finished pool play 2-1 beating Axtell and Oskaloosa. They lost to Mission Valley in a very close, 3 set match to take second in their pool. They went on to play Centralia, the one seed from the other pool and started off very well, giving the Panthers quite a scare. In the end the Mustangs fell and played Osage City for 3rd.  The Mustangs looked pretty good against Osage but couldn't quite pull off the win and took home fourth place for the day. Coach Schmitz thought the girls fought hard and learned a lot. The Mustangs are young and have a lot of growing to do, but overall he was pleased with the day.
